Maine Reading Association's mission is to facilitate opportunities for all persons to be lifelong learners who use literacy for a variety of purposes; to encourage professional growth and literacy development through current research and information; and to support a lifetime love of reading and writing.

Maine Reading Association proudly co-sponsors the Maine Student Book Award

This year's votes have been counted in a close contest and The End of the Beginning: Being the Adventures of a Small Snail(and an Even Smaller Ant) by award winning Avi is the winner of the 2005-2006 Maine Student Book Award. From a list of 42 titles, Maine fourth through eighth grade students cast 4.100 votes for their favorite book. Also among the top five were Heartbeat by Sharon Creech, Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Peterson, Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliet, and The Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer. The MSBA is a joint project of the Maine Association of School Libraries, the Maine Library Association and the Maine Reading Association.
