Greeting MRA Members,

As the continuing president of the Maine Reading Association, I am looking forward to another year of building a community of learners and committed educators. We have planned several collaborative events for the upcoming year. My hopes, dreams, and wishes for this organization are for it to become a more active and visual presence in the state of Maine. Check out our new website at mainereading.org.

We need to be as knowledgeable as possible about what matters in literacy instruction. We need to be involved in conversations that inform us about teacher research, informative teaching practices, the social aspects of learning, and how children develop as learners.

The executive board joins me in encouraging your participation in MRA. We are an organization committed to professional conversations in reading and writing. We planned a 2005-2006 calendar in response to needs expressed by teachers who attended our Spring workshop and the expertise and desires of our executive board. For the upcoming year we have planned one preregistered event with Scholastic, workshops, and open board meetings. Check out another collaboration and a first ever event in Maine on readingrumpus.org. We are working on plans for a spring event at the Samoset. Share our calendar with colleagues.

Please join us. Get involved.

Responsively,

Donna Maxim(633-5087)
President
